This gruesome and bizarre shocker of a film is one of the most notorious in all of silent cinema. Part brutal tabloid drama of rape and retribution and part WW1 propaganda, it pits Hobart Bosworth, a German-American sailor, against Wallace Beery, a sadistic German U-boat commander. The violence is graphic and disturbing.
