A double-bill of classic monster movies at Sheffield's beautiful Abbeydale Picture House!

At 5pm: THE LOST WORLD (1925) - silent film with live piano
Ninety years before Steven Spielberg's Jurassic Park, Arthur Conan Doyle's dinosaur adventure was brought to the big screen for the first time. Join us for an adventure across continents to the land that time forgot, featuring all your favourite dinosaurs, the terrifying 'apeman' and a few volcanoes for good measure. Special effects pioneer Willis O'Brien's stop-motion animation still looks magnificent on the big screen - he started work on his masterpiece, King Kong, just a few months after the release of The Lost World. With live, improvised piano accompaniment by Jonny Best.

At 7.15pm: KING KONG (1933) - in 35mm courtesy of the BFI
The greatest monster pic of them all, the awesome and extraordinary King Kong, gave us one of cinema's most unforgettable images: Fay Wray in Kong's grasp atop the Empire State Building. Willis O'Brien's animated Kong combines with Max Steiner's groundbreaking score to create a monster film with a surprisingly touching emotional core. Showing in 35mm on the Abbeydale's huge screen, there's no better way to experience this historic film.
